Photographs are often understood as vessels of memory, preserving people, places, and events for future retrieval. In this work, the photographs are turned away from the viewer, withholding the images they contain and redirecting attention to the systems used to organize and preserve them. Handwritten annotations, intended to secure meaning, are themselves partially obscured, making inaccessible the stories they record. This piece reflects on the fragility of memory and the limitations of archives. Does documentation protect from loss?
